Ethio Telecom is seeking local and international suppliers of energy-storage systems, advanced batteries, fuel cells and hybrid wind-solar technologies for its telecommunications network. Submissions are due by 10 November 2026.

Ethio Telecom has invited local and international renewable power suppliers to share information on energy-storage and renewable-power technologies for its telecommunications network.
The international Request for Information (RFI), reference number 4287616, covers four technology areas: hybrid energy storage systems (HESS), semi-solid-state or solid-state batteries, fuel-cell energy solutions, and hybrid wind-solar systems.
Ethio Telecom opened the RFI on 20 October 2026 and set a submission deadline of 10 November 2026 at 5:30 p.m., according to its official notice.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors and resellers can respond. However, applicants must demonstrate experience supplying suitable solutions and providing post-sales technical and professional support. They may also respond to individual technology categories rather than all four.
The notice gives renewable power suppliers an opportunity to present technologies that could meet the operator’s energy requirements. In addition, their proposals should reflect the technical needs of telecommunications infrastructure, including dependable power and ongoing maintenance.
Interested companies must submit sealed responses to Ethio Telecom’s head office on Churchill Road in Addis Ababa. Specifically, submissions should go to the Supply Chain Division, second floor, Room 211B. The notice also states that the operator will not accept late submissions.
The four categories offer different options for powering telecommunications sites. For example, hybrid storage systems can combine batteries with other power sources, while advanced batteries store electricity for later use. Meanwhile, fuel cells provide another potential power source, and hybrid wind-solar systems combine two renewable technologies to generate electricity.
These solutions could help telecommunications operators manage power needs where grid access, reliability or operating costs present challenges. However, their suitability will depend on each site’s technical requirements, local energy resources and operating conditions. Suppliers may therefore need to demonstrate how their technologies can work within existing power systems and support reliable operations.
The RFI seeks information from potential suppliers; it does not confirm a contract award. At this stage, Ethio Telecom has not specified which technologies it may select, the number of sites involved or the value of any future procurement.
Interested companies can consult Ethio Telecom’s official RFI notice and its accompanying documents for full eligibility and submission requirements.
