CDP approves €1.3 billion for Africa energy projects

PRESS RELEASE

CDP expands support for sustainable investment projects

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) has approved new operations worth a total of €1.3 billion to support international cooperation, Italian companies and local public authorities.

The measures were approved by the Board of Directors chaired by Giovanni Gorno Tempini, following a proposal from CEO and General Manager Dario Scannapieco.

The package includes initiatives linked to sustainable development, climate resilience, infrastructure and strategic industrial supply chains, with a particular focus on Africa and South America.

Energy efficiency and climate resilience projects in Africa

To strengthen energy systems, improve climate resilience and accelerate the sustainable transition, CDP approved several projects aimed at supporting investments and development programs in Africa and South America.

The initiatives will also involve cooperation with major international financial institutions and development banks operating in these regions.

According to CDP, the projects are designed to strengthen local economies by supporting strategic sectors in partner countries, including energy and coffee supply chains. The measures are also expected to enhance the activities of Italian companies already operating in these sectors.

The decision reflects growing attention toward sustainable infrastructure and energy efficiency investments across African markets, particularly in regions where access to reliable energy systems and climate adaptation measures remain key priorities.

Support for climate mitigation and adaptation programs

The Board also approved additional operations in partner countries involved in international cooperation programs focused on climate mitigation and adaptation.

These initiatives are aligned with programs promoted by major global institutions working on climate action and sustainable development.

New measures for infrastructure and local communities

In line with the objectives outlined in CDP’s 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, the Board approved further initiatives aimed at supporting investments in key national infrastructure and fostering business growth in Italy, including projects developed alongside local stakeholders.

Additional measures were also approved to support public administrations and local authorities in accessing European resources for sustainable investments.

The initiatives will help finance projects linked to water infrastructure and social housing, reinforcing sustainable development objectives at local level.
